About Us

The owners, Paula and David Audley and their son, Sam Homfray, are well known to North Norfolk Fish and Chip fans having spent nearly twenty years frying in the area.

For several years they ran a very successful Fish and Chip shop in Suffield Park, Cromer and prior to that had served Fish and Chips in North Walsham, Gorleston and Belton. In 2001, they decided to return to their home town and opened in North Walsham.

David Audley is Immediate Past President of the National Federation of Fish Friers and Chairman of the Eastern Seafish Training Association and is often called upon to answer media questions on behalf of the fish frying industry.

About The Three Cottages Fish Restaurant.

The Three Cottages Fish Restaurant started, first and foremost, as a high quality Fish and Chip Restaurant.  Customers wanting a meal to eat at home or on the move were always welcomed but originally the business's prime aim was to provide a restaurant service.

Why did we open it ?

Throughout many years of frying and serving fish and chips, we have been well supported by our local customers. Like everyone else, we have to earn enough to pay the bills, but that is certainly not our main reason for opening a Fish and Chip shop. There are, after all, easier ways to earn a living!

We actually enjoy our work as many of our regular customers over the last few years have noticed. Our slightly unusual approach to customer relations at an earlier shop led to us being featured in the local daily newspaper, the Eastern Daily Press, as a 'Merry Band of Friars'. Their reporting of our habit of insulting regular customers led to people travelling 20 miles or more to buy their fish and chips and complaining if we didn't insult them!

Whilst the fun with our customers makes the work far more enjoyable, our greatest satisfaction is in producing absolute top quality fish and chips. The Three Cottages Fish Restaurant was conceived and designed to attempt to produce the 'Best Fish and Chips in the World'. The restaurant is equipped with a top quality high efficiency frying range and only the very best available fish is used. By ensuring every stage of preparing, storing and frying is correct, we aim to provide every customer with the same top quality meal. All meals are cooked to order and, whilst this may mean a wait during busy periods, this individual attention ensures that the same high standards are enjoyed on every visit.

Whilst we only claim to aim for the Best Fish and Chips in the World and would not presume to boast of such an achievement, many customers tell us they believe they are eating just that !

Since opening in May 2002, the restaurant has grown in popularity attracting customers from as far afield as Norway, Holland and even Japan as well as regular visitors from throughout the United Kingdom.

We have been awarded the prestigious Seafish Friers Quality Award every year since opening.

Such was the demand for our delicious Fish and Chips that the demand quickly out grew the capacity of the kitchen, designed to serve a moderately busy Restaurant. In order to satisfy the regular Restauarnt diners and the fast growing number wanting meals to take away we had to find bigger premises.

The move to Bacton Road in July 2006 gives us not only an attractive Restaurant but the opprotunity to provide a seperate Take Away area with a bigger frying range to keep up with the growing demand. Plus the added bonus of our own car park.

Come and see for yourself - your sure of a warm welcome.

 FISH AND CHIPS FOR NELSON

The people of North Walsham being proud of the fact that Lord Nelson was educated at the local Paston School for two years, the Nelson Bicentennial Celebration was a real occasion for the town. The celebrations also included a dinner and the Three Cottages Fish Restaurant, were approached to provide the meals to be served during a concert and dance in the local community centre. Thanks to generouis assistance from our suppliers, we were able to provide nearly 150 meals free of charge. The enjoyable evening not only helped celebrate the Bicentennial and raised a considerable sum for charity but gained some extra fans for our great British tradition - Fish and Chips .
